Cash App users might soon see funds in their bank accounts following a significant settlement.
The mobile payment platform has been directed to disburse $15 million in damages as part of a legal resolution.
Background of the Lawsuit A class-action lawsuit alleged that Cash App Investing and its parent company, Block Inc., failed to protect consumer information adequately. The breach in December 2021 led to the public release of personal data belonging to 8.2 million users of Cash App Investing. Additionally, the lawsuit revealed that a former employee accessed and downloaded user information without authorization.
Eligibility for Claims To be eligible for compensation, users must have had an active Cash App account between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024. Claims can only be submitted by those who have not received reimbursement from Block Inc., Cash App Investing, or another source.
Types of Claims Cash App users can file claims for various types of losses:
- Out-of-Pocket Expenses: If your Cash App account was affected by the data breach, you may claim up to $2,500 by providing the necessary documentation.
- Lost Time: Users can be reimbursed for up to three hours at $25 per hour for time spent dealing with the breach.
- Transaction Losses: Submit a claim for any financial losses not previously reimbursed.
Multiple Accounts If you have multiple Cash App accounts, submit only one claim form. List all your accounts and related information on this single form.
