Several KFC restaurants in the Midwest have suddenly shut down, leaving many communities without their local chicken spot. Reports indicate that up to 25 KFC locations, all owned by the franchisee EYM Chicken, have closed their doors in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Among the affected areas in southern Wisconsin are Reedsburg, Janesville, Beloit, Stoughton, and Watertown.
KFC has confirmed that these closures are indeed connected to a single franchisee. This news comes as the latest in a series of restaurant closures across the United States, driven by rising food costs and increased operational expenses.
Earlier this year, EYM Pizza, another branch of the EYM Group, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after shutting down more than a dozen Pizza Hut locations in Indiana and Ohio. EYM Group also operates several other well-known fast food chains, including Burger King, Denny’s, and Panera Bread.
