Elon Musk, announced key points about the upcoming Polaris mission, a groundbreaking endeavor poised to set new records in space exploration. Scheduled for no earlier than August 26, the mission will see a crew of four embark on a five-day journey in orbit, with the goal of achieving the highest Earth orbit ever flown. The mission will also feature SpaceX’s latest EVA suits, which offer improved mobility, a heads-up display, and advanced materials.
The upcoming Polaris mission is led by Jared Isaacman, CEO of Shift4 and an experienced pilot. He’s joined by Scott “Kidd” Poteet, a retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel, along with SpaceX’s Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon.
The Polaris mission will launch from Florida aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket, aiming to push the limits of space travel. A key moment will be the first-ever commercial spacewalk, taking place approximately 700 kilometers above Earth. The crew will don SpaceX-designed EVA spacesuits, marking a significant step toward developing scalable designs for future missions. In addition to the spacewalk, the mission will also test Starlink’s laser-based communications in space, a critical advancement for future deep-space communications. Health research is another major focus, with the crew conducting studies on the effects of spaceflight on human health, including monitoring venous gas emboli and gathering data on radiation exposure.
