A luxury yacht carrying multiple British citizens sank off the coast of Sicily, Italy early Monday morning, prompting an extensive search and rescue operation. The vessel, identified as the Bayesian, went down around 4:30 AM local time.

Authorities have confirmed that one person has died, and six others are still missing. Among the 15 people rescued by emergency services is a one-year-old British girl. The Italian Coastguard is leading the rescue efforts, deploying divers and helicopters to search the area.
A wreck has been discovered 50 meters (164 feet) below the sea’s surface. A captain of a nearby vessel reported rescuing 15 people from a life raft, noting that the yacht was leaning to one side before it sank. The managers of the Bayesian, Camper & Nicholsons, stated that severe weather was responsible for the incident.
British entrepreneur Mike Lynch is among those still unaccounted for, according to reports from Reuters and the PA news agency. The yacht’s passengers included nationals from the UK, US, Canada, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Ireland.
