Former YouTube CEO and one of Google’s early employees, Susan Wojcicki, has passed away at the age of 56 after a two-year battle with cancer, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced on the social media platform X on Saturday.

“Devastated by the loss of my dear friend Susan Wojcicki after her two-year fight with cancer. She played a crucial role in Google’s history, and it’s difficult to imagine the world without her,” Pichai shared in his post.

Wojcicki, a leading figure in the tech industry, stepped down from her nine-year tenure as YouTube’s CEO in 2023.

“It is with great sorrow that I announce the passing of Susan Wojcicki. My cherished wife of 26 years and the mother of our five children left us today after a two-year battle with non-small cell lung cancer,” wrote her husband, Dennis Troper, in a Facebook post earlier in the evening.
