Beneficiaries of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can expect their next payment, worth up to $943, in 26 days.
Normally, SSI recipients get one monthly payment of $943. However, due to the timing of the payments, recipients will receive two checks in August this year. This is because the SSI payments are typically issued on the first of each month. When the first day of the month is a weekend, the payment is sent on the preceding Friday. As September 1 falls on a Sunday, the payment will be issued on August 30, resulting in two payments in August.
SSI is designed to support individuals with disabilities that significantly impair their ability to earn an income, as outlined by the Social Security Administration.
• Individual applicants can receive up to $943 per month.
• Couples filing jointly can receive up to $1,415 per month.
• Essential persons, those who provide necessary care to SSI recipients, can receive up to $472 per month.
Due to inflation, these amounts have increased by 3.2% since 2023.
To qualify, applicants must be at least partially blind or have a physical or mental condition that severely limits their daily activities for at least 12 months or is expected to result in death. The maximum benefit amount depends on the nature of the application.
It’s important to note that SSI payments are separate from regular Social Security benefits. Receiving one does not automatically qualify someone for the other. Recipients can use a calculator provided by the SSA to determine their payment total.
